For vaginal microbiome profiling, speed is essential to support timely and informed action as vaginal microbiomes can transition rapidly and repeatedly. Vaginal samples are also commonly heavily contaminated with human cells – over 95% of the total DNA in vaginal samples can correspond to host DNA. Conventional vaginal microbiome test methods, including amplicon and shotgun sequencing, struggle to return results rapidly and cost-effectively without sacrificing sensitivity and reproducibility. In contrast, the qPCR-based approach central to Bio-Me Precision Microbiome Profiling (PMP™) technology delivers accurate, quantitative data – in days! In addition, PMP™ achieves subspecies resolution and it is not negatively impacted by host DNA because it is a targeted approach.
The Bio-Me PMP™ Vaginal Microbiome test is optimal for fast, cost-effective and comprehensive profiling of vaginal samples with high amounts of host DNA. Unlike sequencing, PMP™ can quantify the number of detected microorganisms and the microbial load in a sample. The PMP™ platform relies on highly parallelized qPCR, enabling the quantitative detection of many microbes simultaneously. Assays are created to target at (sub)species level, are carefully validated, highly specific and true-to-target, giving you accurate results. PMP™ technology has been demonstrated to return results concordant with class-leading shotgun sequencing approaches (manuscript in preparation), but at a fraction of the cost and with a shorter turnaround time (ready-to-use results 2-5 days after samples arrive at the Bio-Me lab). DNA extraction has been optimized for robust vaginal microbes with tough cell walls and fully supports industry-standard vaginal sampling methods.
The Bio-Me PMP™ Core Vaginal Microbiome Test offers a comprehensive microbiome profiling solution targeting more than 50 rationally selected bacterial and fungal vaginal species, to rapidly provide you with a meaningful picture of the vaginal microbiome. The test informs on the vaginal community state type (I-V) and identifies microbes involved in bacterial vaginosis, aerobic vaginitis and Candida infections. Moreover, test results can offer insights into potential risks regarding gynecological health and fertility. STI testing is available as an add-on.
